The Bible says in 1John 1:9, "If we confess our sins HE is Faithful and Just to Forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." A young man recently told me that it is so difficult to believe that GOD really Forgives his sin because GOD seems so Perfect, so Holy, so Just. He didn’t understand how GOD could ever just excuse what he has done. And doesn’t the Bible say, in Ezekiel 18:13, that the soul that sins "shall surely die"?
It is true that GOD doesn't excuse sin, but HE does Forgive us! Just as GOD is Absolute in HIS Holiness and Justice, both of which require absolute obedience on our part, so GOD is also absolute in HIS Love and HIS Mercy. In our eyes, GOD has a dilemma. Justice versus Mercy, absolute Holiness colliding with absolute Love for us.
How has GOD resolved this predicament? HE resolved it by robing HIMSELF in flesh and coming to this Earth as The Man, JESUS CHRIST. And HE then received the penalty for our sin in HIS Body on the Cross. HE imputes HIS Righteousness to the believer. So, while GOD can't excuse sin, HE does Forgive it through the terrible price paid at Calvary.
Perhaps this prayer could be yours today…
Dear FATHER, I know that at times I do not feel Forgiven, but I acknowledge what YOU have done on my behalf at Calvary. I Praise YOU for this and thank YOU that by Faith I can know that I am Forgiven through The Blood shed on Mt Calvary. Thank YOU, LORD, for all of the Mighty Blessings YOU bestow upon each one of us every single day. I Pray in The Precious and Powerful Name of JESUS CHRIST of Nazareth. Amen.
