We have all seen many things that we do not like, even some things which have turned our stomachs and left us crying out, "How could I have done such things? What kind of person am I?" The burden of really getting to know yourself has crushed many people. Seeing our defects, and all that dark spirits can bring about, can lead to despair. The burden is too heavy to carry alone.
So, we go to GOD, remembering the old hymn, ‘No one understands like JESUS.’ We tell HIM everything. We hold back nothing. We weep, and we let HIM dry our tears. HE reminds us of the great sacrifice which takes away all sin. HE brings to our minds the perfect righteousness of when HE robed HIMSELF in flesh to come to Earth as The Man JESUS CHRIST to die for each of us which hides the shame of our past. HE speaks Peace to our tortured souls. We rise from our time of confession strengthened, settled, humbled, renewed.
We must not, however, pervert HIS Love into an encouragement to continue in sin that Grace may abound. GOD forbid! Having received HIS Forgiveness for all that we are and have done, we now begin to earnestly pray that HE will remove those hideous defects of character that we have unearthed and make us HIS Disciples and to be like HIM. We ask for Grace to help in time of need each morning before we go forth to face the day's struggles. Each night we go to HIM to confess any failures and to thank HIM for our Victories. And we make progress toward being CHRIST-like.
Oh, Heavenly FATHER, Thank YOU for being willing to share my grief over my sinfulness and for coming to this world to bear the burden of my sin. Please grant that I may hate sin more and more, while I Love YOU more and more, looking to YOUR example for Grace and Strength more and more, and grow up into the beautiful likeness of YOU, more and more. I thank YOU for all YOU provide on a daily basis. Oh JESUS, I Praise YOU, Glorify YOU and Pray to YOU in YOUR Powerful and Precious Name. Amen.
