These defects of character led some, who might have been friends, to write us off. Many people can enjoy friendships with others who are "different," but who wants a close friend who doesn't care about anything and anyone but themselves?
Detaching from others guaranteed that our need for love, security, and identity would not be met. We became love-starved, insecure individuals who had no clear idea of who we were. We were vulnerable to be used and abused by others (I'll do anything, just love, touch and accept me) and fell for all manner of nonsense about who we were and how we should live and act.
This doesn't have to continue! We can stop looking to other people for love and approval and look up to GOD for HIS Love and acceptance. Realizing that we are HIS rare treasure. We can stop being self-absorbed and reach out to others who can, over time, help meet our emotional and relational needs. Instead of withdrawing, we can reach out. Instead of focusing on self, we can focus on GOD and others. Instead of tearing others down because we feel inferior, we can concentrate on building them up. We can, by GOD’S Grace, become healthy men and women who lead rich, full lives! Won't you start traveling that route today?
Oh Heavenly FATHER, I am so very Thankful for all that YOU have done in, and through, this life that YOU have given me. Please forgive me my shortcomings and give me Grace to change the habits which have dominated and distorted my life for so many years. Help me to be patient with myself, yet, firm as I seek to become the person you intended all along. Thank YOU for keeping YOUR Promise of Freedom and to be in a right relationship with YOU. I Praise YOU my LORD, my GOD and I Pray to YOU in The Mighty & Powerful Name of JESUS CHRIST. Amen.
