The Apostolic Church faces the same objection. Holding strongly to The Pure Word of GOD, that the way to receive the Hope of eternal salvation is by Believing, Repenting, Baptism in JESUS’ Name for the remission of sin and to be Baptized in The SPIRIT, receiving The HOLY GHOST which is evidenced by the speaking of tongues. Some people responded, "Well, if GOD is going to save me, I'll be saved, if not, I'll be lost, and there's nothing for me to do about it!"
If you were in a boat that turned over and you couldn't swim, would you do nothing? Of course not! You would do everything you could, hoping that while you were flailing around, someone might come to your rescue. Use the means of Grace (things like hearing the preaching of The Word, studying the Bible, praying, and seeking time with and counsel from your Pastor and other Christians) as you look to GOD to do HIS saving work in your heart.
In the same way, when our struggles urge us to acknowledge that we alone are powerless, it doesn’t call us to sit down and do nothing. No! But instead it sets us forth a path to uncover and deal with those issues which have led to our struggles. It tells us that we must proceed in dependence on JESUS CHRIST, looking to HIM to deliver us. HE has given us Power when HE indwelled us as The Comforter! And we must have Faith in HIS Power!
How is it with you? Are you using the fact of being powerless as an excuse to do nothing? Are you using the, “Oh I am waiting on GOD to move”, as an excuse not to do anything? Or are you using the fact that HIS HOLY GHOST, The very Power HE spoke of, undwells you as a driving force to seek Dependence on, and Trust in, JESUS CHRIST Alone as you press on and look forward confidently to HIS Blessing?
Dear LORD, Please forgive each one of us for somehow seeming to always get it wrong! I know that my own blindness in part is my sin seeking to maintain itself in my life. Please grant me the Grace of determination and persistence. Please help me to cry out with Jacob of old, "I will not let Thee go except Thou bless me!" May this prod me to deeper Trust in YOU. Thank YOU, LORD JESUS, for all of the Mighty Blessings YOU pour out amongst each one of us every single day! I Praise & Glorify YOU. I Pray to YOU, JESUS CHRIST of Nazareth in YOUR Mighty and Powerful Name. Amen.
